The Difference Between Winning And Succeeding

by | May 11, 2020 | Blog | 0 comments

With Everything that is going down with NCAA basketball, I thought it was a great time to think about a legend..

Can you imagine what John Wooden would have said if a shoe company came to him and said,  “Hi John,  I would like to give you some money to give to a kid, so that he comes to your school and ends up wearing our sneakers when he gets to the NBA.  OH,  and you are going to get another kick back from a sports agent who will pay you money for you to use your trust and credibility to steer him to the agents services!  Sound good?”

I have a feeling John's response would have been,  “Go Fly a Kite!” (Only because Rule #2 of John Wooden's 3 rules is “No Profanity”)

never try to be better than someone elseAlways learn from othersNever cease trying to be the best you can be

Here John Wooden's Top 3 Rules for Living A Successful Life:

Rule #1: Never Try To Be Better Than Someone Else

John knew that the biggest battle that someone would every have in their life isn't against another person,  it's a battle against our potential.  If we get to our potential,  we can't ask for more.  The truth is,  some people have more god given talent than others in certain areas.  If we reach our potential, we have won!

Rule #2: Always Learn From Others

We all know that we learn from mistakes.  Success happens a lot faster if we not only learn from our mistakes but we also learn from the mistakes of others.  We can learn from other's successes as well.

The point is,  there is always someone doing it better and smarter.  Don't judge these people,  learn from them and be the best you have the potential to be.

The reason why I created this company is because I went through 10 years of trail and error AND read hundreds of books to always be improving my skills.  I took the best of what I learned over 10 years and put it in the Ultimate Closers Masterclass and in my other training programs.

Reason #3:  Never cease trying to be the best you can be

There is no finish line for growth.  Every day,  we are either growing or decaying,  until we die.  The minute we think we made and we coast,  we start to lose ground.

Never stop learning,  never stop investing in your success.  I am a lifelong learner.  I could have stopped learning when I got to 6 figures in sales..  But I kept learning and trying new things, investing in programs and education.  I could have stopped learning when I got to 7 figures..  But I kept learning and as a result of that learning and a result,  went higher than I ever would have imagined than if I would have acted like a 6 figure “Know It All”.

When I come across someone who knows it all,  I know that they don't know the most important thing..  And that is that we never know it all,  we are always learning and growing..

Other Take Aways From John Wooden

When we focus on stuff that is out of our control, it affects things that ARE in our controlWow.  This is huge.  We don't have to worry about anything that we don't control.  It is our JOB not to because if we do,  it affects our performance on the things we do have control over. You reputation is who you are perceived to beYour character is who you really are  (Way More important)Character Beats Reputation.  If you have great character,  success you will find you (Eventually) and you will never feel like the NCAA coach who got caught and was arrested by the FBI.Your life will be peaceful because you know you are doing the right thing, even when know when is watching.  Taking short cuts may work temporarily but they never last.John Wooden's 3 Rules for his players1.  Never Be Late2.  No Profanity3.  Never criticize a teammatePatience and faith is the key to longevity and success.

This felt like a great time to celebrate integrity and the legend of John Wooden, a man of great character.

Be the Best,

Jeremy Miner

P.S.  We would love to have you be a part of our Ultimate Closers Masterclass IF you are one who is always learning and growing and wants to achieve more while maintaining great character.
